AMEF launched the Strings of Love Programme half a year ago for 13 students from underprivileged or low-income families to gain self-confidence while learning violin and nurturing interest in the arts. We subsidised students from low-income families to purchase their own instruments and provided free violin training. The learning is structured in the form of violin ensemble, it is envisioned the students will not only obtain personal breakthroughs but also meeting new people of diverse background to practice teamwork and social learning.
By learning new and unique music repertoires, opportunity and possibility are created for the student to perform and to break self-limit at a young stage, and thus empowering self-esteem and confidence after the completion of the programme. The project believes an individual’s talent can be aroused through an encouraging and less competitive environment, and the music is not exclusively for celebrated virtuoso, yet “everyone can perform”.
The project also collaborates with young local semi-professional musicians to create a series of original Art Mentor compositions and music for the programme. In the graduation concert, 13 students demonstrated their achievements by playing original music by Art Mentor. Thanks to the audience for attending this graduation performance and witnessing these 13 students graduate together!
